AEP Customers Get New Electric Meters

Thousands of American Electric Power (AEP) customers in the New Philadelphia area are getting new meters.

Spokeswoman Shelly Clark says crews will begin installing about 16,500 automated meters locally on Wednesday.

In all, she says about 204,000 AEP Ohio customers throughout the service territory will receive updated electric meters over the next several months as the company expands the use of automated meter reading (AMR) technology.

Clark says the project locally should take about three weeks to complete, barring inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Clark says customers are not being charged for the new meter.

Clark says meter installations will be conducted Monday through Saturday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

For more information, customers can contact AEP’s 24 hour customer solution center at 1-800-672-2231 or visit their website at aepohio.com.
