A possible pay increase for select elected officials in the city of New Philadelphia may be held off until the new year.
City council is currently deciding whether or not to institute a 3-percent raise for elected officials, excluding the city's municipal court judge and law director. Salary Committee Chair John Zucal says the possible raise has been nearly twelve months in the making.

In addition to the positions of law director and municipal court judge, council elected by a four to two vote Monday night to also exclude the seven members of city council from the pay increase.
Zucal says part of his reasoning for wanting to exclude council members is to focus on the future and ensure council members are able to meet state requirements in order to receive credit towards their pensions.
Due to some opposition from members of council, Zucal says he expects the current amended resolution to go a full three readings.
If approved, the pay increase would be retroactive to January 1, 2012.
