Could the Oil and Gas Industry Lead to Job Competition?

Despite the seemingly positive aspects of the oil and gas boom, the industry could cause some problems for local municipalities.

Dennison Councilman Greg DiDonato says he believes, as the industry develops in and around Tuscarawas County, cities and villages could be forced to compete for their own employees.

DiDonato says the fact that oil and gas companies are able to pay employees higher wages could put many municipalities, including the village of Dennison, in a tough situation.

DiDonato notes, however, that working for a village like Dennison could pose some incentives for employees.

In a village like Dennison, that currently employs 11 full-time employees, DiDonato says the competition with the oil and gas industry could also have an effect on services. He says this may be a situation that really has no solution.

While DiDonato says Dennison has yet to lose an employee to the oil and gas boom, he believes the issue will become more of a problem as the industry continues to develop in the years to come.
