He is a retired US Navy Veteran who served during both World War II and the Korean Conflict and is a retired boilermaker supervisor at the Naval Research Laboratory in Virginia. He was married to Margaret Mary (Rudduck) Wood who died in 1990.
He is survived by his children Patricia Ann Kneuss of Dover, William Warren Wood Jr. of Woodbridge, Virginia and Deborah Chumley of Manassas, Virginia, 10 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife he is preceded in death by 3 children Margaret Wood, Mary Mullens and Eugene Wood. In keeping with Williams wishes cremation has taken place.
