She graduated from East Liverpool High School, studied music at the Pittsburgh Musical Institute, Muskingum college and Eastman School of Music. Sally was a private instructor of piano, voice and organ. She also served as Organist/Choir Director at the First United Methodist Church at Dover, Grace Lutheran Church at Dover and Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia. Over the years Sally presented numerous recitals in our area, appeared with the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Orchestra and was musical director of 15 performances of Handel's Messiah featuring a community chorus and soloists.
Sally was preceded in death by her husband Charles “Chuck” William Riel in 1976. Sally and Chuck operated Culligan Water Conditioning Company in Dover from 1946-1974. Sally is survived by 2 sons William (Barbara) Riel of Wooster and Daniel (April) Riel of Canal Fulton; a daughter Barbara (James) Seikel of Dover; a brother William (Martha) Gaston of East Liverpool and 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Private family graveside services will be held at Dover Burial Park at Dover with Rev. Mike Pozzuto officiating. A memorial service celebrating Sally's life will be held Monday January 14, 2013 at 11:00 AM in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Bolivar with Rev. Mike Pozzuto officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
The Lebold -Smith Funeral Home in Bolivar is handling the arrangements. For those unable to attend please visit the funeral home's web site to share a memory and sign the guest register. The family suggests in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the donors favorite charity in memory of Sally.
