Mary Jane Grewell, 82, Newcomerstown, answered the call to rejoin her husband, A. Wayne Grewell, who died on March 20, 2008, in her eternal home on January 13, 2013 where she had been a patient at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus for four days.
Death came as a repose to the exhausting illness she endured so long and patiently. Loving hands of family and skilled physicians did all they could to provide comfort until her spirit departed her failing body. Mary Jane Clough was born March 5, 1930 in Newcomerstown into the bosom of the Christian faith and raised in the fear, nurture, and admonition of the Lord. She was the daughter of the late Freddie Thomas and Mary Iowa (Harper) Clough.
Entering the world in an abnormally small size (2 ½ pounds), she was brought to the home of her parents in a shoebox and never anticipated an extended life on this earth but defied all odds and expectations, living a lengthy life of kindness and reverence, grateful for the gift bestowed by her Saviour, time.
Mary Jane married Wayne Grewell on November 6, 1953 in Richmond, Indiana, and was the mother of four: Thomas (Tina) Grewell, Sunbury, Ohio, John (Patti) Grewell, Newcomerstown, and Keith (Pamela) Grewell, Caldwell. A daughter was born prematurely in April, 1954. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Dawn Hicks, Marengo, April Simmons, Newcomerstown, Bryan Grewell, Newcomerstown, Nicole Peoples, Coshocton, Candi Houston, Newcomerstown, Johnna and Jenna Grewell, both of Newcomerstown, PFC Shane Grewell, Alaska, Alex and Keiden Grewell, Caldwell, Jennifer McClure, Delaware, Ohio, and Brandy McLaughlin, Marengo, and 15 great grandchildren.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by an infant sister, Margaret Irene Clough, and a brother-in-law, Robert Casteel. The following brothers and sisters also survive to mourn their loss: Joy Lou (Lester) Marlatt, Gerry Ann Casteel, Charles H. (Viola) Clough, and Fred T. (Colleen) Clough, Jr., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services to celebrate Mary Jane’s life will be held on Friday, January 18, 11:00 AM, in the Ourant Funeral Home. Rev. R. Gene Whyde and Pastor R. Wayne Baker will conduct the services. Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown. Visiting hours will also be held in the funeral home on Thursday evening, 6 until 8 PM, and on Friday morning from 10:00 until the 11:00 AM funeral.
