The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office is planning to conduct two separate tests of the Emergency Notification System or Reverse 9-1-1 later this month.
Communications Manager Jim Torch says 9-1-1 dispatchers will send test alerts to the village of Zoar at 6 pm and to the village Tuscarawas at 6:45 pm on Thursday, January 31st.
He says the messages will be brief and clearly advise that this is a test of the system.

Torch says all of the 568 landline and cell phones in the selected areas will each be contacted one time.
He says Reverse 9-1-1 has proven to be a fast and effective way to notify residents of an emergency situation.
Torch says these tests will serve a two-fold purpose: to give dispatchers a chance to go through the entire alert process and to get more people talking about the Emergency Notification System.
Torch says residents need only to register their cell phones to receive the alerts. Landline telephones are automatically registered.
Residents of Tuscarawas County who have not registered their cell phones can do so through the Self-Registration Portal at https://tuscarawascountysheriff.onthealert.com or by using the link on the Sheriff’s website at http://sheriff.co.tuscarawas.oh.us.
