According to the National Weather Service, the wind chill factor is expected to reach 15 degrees below zero through late Wednesday morning.
Since the extreme cold increases the possibility for frostbite, Vickie Ionno with the New Philadelphia Health Department says there a number of symptoms to watch for.
Ionno says when frostbite is discovered, the best course of action is to get indoors and start warming up.
In extreme frostbite cases, Ionno says medical attention may be required.
She says it’s important to dress properly when going outdoors on these cold days.
Ionno stresses the need for everyone to keep their homes as warm as possible.
Ionno says everyone should prepare their homes for the possibility of power going out.
Ionno also suggests that anyone traveling make certain they have blankets and non-perishable foods with them in case they get stranded.
