V. Jean (Duhl) Watt

V. Jean (Duhl) Watt, 93, of Dennison, passed away at Union Hospital in Dover on Monday, January 21, 2013 after a period of declining health. Born in Dennison on April 8, 1919 to the late Andrew Leroy “Roy” and Pearl Gertrude (Sharp) Duhl, Jean lived most of her life in Dennison. She graduated salutatorian from Dennison High School in 1937. Jean was a longtime member of Park Christian Church in Dennison where she was church organist for over fifty years. She was active in many church organizations including Pheobe’s Friends, the J.O.Y. Sunday School class and the choir. Some of her fondest memories were associated with the folks at that church. She had been an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the National Hairdresser’s Association for many years, as well. She and her husband, Murle, owned and operated Watt’s Grocery in the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s, and also Watt’s Beauty Salon, from which she retired in 2000. In her spare time, Jean loved to read the Bible and play the piano. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who will always remember the many vacations that they enjoyed together.

She is survived by a daughter, Jill (Ernie) Ross of Danville; son-in-law, William Young of Canton; grandchildren, Wendel Young of Cutler, Ill., Andrea (Greg) Anderson of Tuscarawas, Trent Ross of Indianapolis, Ind., and Holly Ross of Mt. Vernon; great-grandchildren, Kasey, Hawk, Heather (Bobby), Megan, Trista, Whitney, Brooke, Joshua, Brittany, Caleb and Trey; great-great-grandchildren, Kaden, Ethan, Bella and Riley; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Murle Watt to whom she was married on October 29, 1938, enjoying over sixty years of marriage until his passing on December 24, 1999, and their daughter, Sally Young who passed in 2010.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 25, in Park Christian Church in Dennison. The service will be officiated by Pastor Scot Caley and her grandson, Pastor Trent Ross. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Ridgecrest Memory Garden in Dover. Family and friends are invited to call at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Park Christian Church’s Building Fund.
