The department has been awarded $109,805 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters grant program.
Heather Wells, Newcomerstown fire department spokeswoman, says the funds will be used to purchase new equipment.
Wells says grants like this one are extremely important to the fire department.
According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program helps firefighters and other first responders purchase protective equipment, vehicles, and gear.
