Local Man’s Book Chronicles Father’s World War II Experiences

An area resident has written a book based on letters sent from his father to his family during the Second World War.

Monte Ball, Director of Advancement at Kent State University Tuscarawas, said the idea for the book 190 Letters: A Soldier’s Story of World War II came about ten years ago when he discovered a collection of letters written to his grandparents by his father Elvin Ball while serving in the war.

Ball says his father served in the Army from April 1941 to June 1945.

Ball says most of his father’s letters were sent to assure his parents that he was doing okay.

Ball says writing this book has given him the chance to connect with relatives of soldiers his father served with.

Ball’s book 190 Letters: A Soldier’s Story of World War II will go on sale March 26th.
