Locals Share Concerns About EMS Service

Uhrichsville residents say they still have some questions regarding the possibility of fire-based EMS services for the city.

At council's most recent meeting, officials heard concerns surrounding ambulance services at local sporting events.

Claymont Athletic Director Brian Watkins says the district currently utilizes the city's provider, Smith Ambulance, for all junior high through varsity football games and all cross country meets.

Councilman Mark Haney, who previously served as a member of the Claymont Board of Education, says providing ambulance service for athletic events is ultimately left up to the school to take care of.

Haney says he is happy to hear residents voicing their concerns.

Haney says council is tentatively planning another meeting for later this month and the public is invited to attend.

The meeting is tentatively scheduled for 6:30pm on Thursday, January 31st.

On a similar note, at the same meeting, council voted down a recommendation by Councilman Jeff Gyurko for the city to sign a two-year contract extension with Smith Ambulance at the same rate. The measure was defeated by a 4-2 vote, with the only two “yes” votes coming from Gyurko and Councilman Rob Stewart. Councilwoman Cathy Cottis was absent from the meeting.
