Barbara A. Bowden



Barbara A. Bowden, 68, of Bolivar, died Monday January 28, 2013 at 6:15 AM in Aultman Hospital at Canton after a courageous 5 ½ year battle with breast cancer. Born February 21, 1944 in East Liverpool, Ohio she was the daughter of Sara L. Hague of East Liverpool and the late Herbert H. Yager.

She was a 1962 graduate of East Liverpool High School, received her B.S. in Education at the College of Steubenville (Franciscan University of Steubenville) in 1966 and additional graduate work at Kent State University. Barbara taught in the East Liverpool City Schools from 1966 to 1969 and the South Side Area Schools (Beaver County, Pa.) from 1969 to 1972.

In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband Robert J. Bowden whom she married December 27, 1970. Also surviving are two daughters Rae Ann Bowden of Dover and Robin Lynn Bowden of Oakdale, Minnesota; a brother J. Herbert Yager of East Liverpool; a nephew Brian (Nichole) Yager of Coshocton; two nieces Karissa Whittington of Lisbon, Ohio, Beth Ann Yager of Rushville, Ohio, six great nieces and nephews and three special young people, Daniel, Christina and Sammy Sickinger, who meant a great deal to her.

In addition to her father who was killed in July 1944 in St. Lo, France during WW II when Barbara was 5 months old she was preceded in death by her stepfather of 48 years Jack Hague who died in 1994, a sister-in law Cindy Yager and ex-sister-in-law Millie Yager.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Shruti Trehan and other staff members of the North Canton Medical Foundation Cancer Center at Aultman Hospital and her doctors at the Cleveland Clinic for their outstanding care.

In her memory the family suggests memorial contribution be made to The American Cancer Society Cleveland Hope Lodge at 11432 Mayfield Rd. Cleveland, Ohio 44106.

Funeral services will be held Thursday January 31, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Lebold-Smith Funeral Home at 248 Park Ave. Bolivar. Rev. Ken Hutchinson will officiate and burial will follow in Fort Laurens Cemetery at Bolivar. Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
