Tuesday night, the Tuscarawas County Democratic Party Central Committee selected Lori Statler to serve as the city's new treasurer. The committee originally selected Jerry Wortman for the position nearly three weeks ago. Wortman, however, eventually decided not to accept the job.
Statler says she feels her previous job experience both locally and at the state level makes her well suited for her new position.
Statler says there should be no conflict with her serving as treasurer for both New Philadelphia and the Claymont School District and notes that she plans to remain with the district.
Statler adds that working as the city's treasurer is a “perfect fit.”
Statler says the job is a chance for her to give back to her community.
Statler notes that she already plans to run on the May primary ballot as well.
Statler will fulfill the final year in former treasurer Dave Johnson's term, who retired from office in December.
