Brown Supports Paid Sick Leave for Workers

Our Democratic U.S Senator says this year’s influenza outbreak underscores the need for paid sick leave for workers.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, more than 3-thousand Ohioans, including some 50 people in Tuscarawas County, have been hospitalized because of the influenza virus this season alone.

Sherrod Brown says too many Americans do not have a single paid sick day that they can use to care for themselves or to care for a sick family member.

Brown says he plans to co-sponsor the Healthy Families Act (HFA), legislation that would allow workers to earn paid sick leave.

Brown says this proposal would cost the public little as it would be up to the individual businesses to offer paid sick days for their employees.

Brown says he’s hopeful that this piece of legislation will pass.

U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA), chair of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, is the author of the bill and plans to introduce the Healthy Families Act in the next month.
