It's Tax Time: AARP Volunteers Crunch the Numbers

Filing taxes can be a complicated and sometimes costly process, but A-A-R-P volunteers are ready to help crunch the numbers for many Ohioans who need help.

The A-A-R-P Tax-Aide program is providing free assistance for moderate- to low-income Ohioans in filing their federal, state and local income tax returns.

A-A-R-P Tax-Aide volunteer Bruce Gelsinger says there are about 15-hundred volunteers statewide, who come from all walks of life and receive training each year.

Gelsinger says the program has been around since 1968 and has grown substantially over the years. He says the volunteers are dedicated to helping those in need.

There are more than 300 staffed sites throughout the state. Last year, volunteers prepared more than 73-thousand returns, resulting in $60 million dollars in federal income tax refunds.
