A special meeting of city council was held Thursday night, during which time council unanimously voted to pass a resolution to accept the agreement between the city and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 4, which represents the 22 officers of the police department.
Mayor Mike Taylor says this new contract goes into effect immediately and runs through the end of 2015.
Taylor says the agreement calls for a modification of the officers’ health care plan.
Taylor says a series of pay increases were agreed upon for the contract period.
Taylor says discussions for this contract began last September.
Taylor says he’s pleased with the way the negotiations went.
Another modification limits the amount of an officer’s accrued vacation time to 600 hours, where in the past there had been no vacation accrual limitation.
