Myrtle Irene (Smith) Geese



Myrtle Irene (Smith) Geese, 91, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Winchester Terrace Nurshing Home in Mansfield, O. She was born December 10,1921 in Paris, O. to the late James William and Minnie Elizabeth (Kube) Smith.

She was a 1940 graduate of Minerva High School in Minerva, O. During WWII, she was a Pennsylvania Railroad Crossing Guard in Mansfield where she waved to and caught and pocketed kisses from trainloads of troops as they passed by on their way to war.

On June 13, 1944, she married James J. Geese, a Pennsylvania Railroad locomotive engineman and they had four children.

She loved reading and flower gardening and was active in Garden Club, Home Demonstration, PTA and at her church. During the 1970's and 1980's she volunteered at Mansfield's Kingwood Center.

Surviving are her son, William L. Geese and wife Phyllis of Charlotte, NC; three daughters, Laurabelle
Krinke and husband Dennis of Renton, WA, Janet Cross and husband Rick of Rush, CO, Susan Lavergne and husband Pete of Bellville; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Stella Storsin and husband Donald of Canton. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 1, 1995 and a granddaughter, Hilary Cross. There will be no calling hours or funeral services as Mrs. Geese's body has been cremated. Memorial contributions may be made to Little Washington Congregational Church 2323 Washington S. Rd., Mansfield, O. 44903.
