SONAR Discovers Nothing During Search in the Tuscarawas River

A search of the Tuscarawas River turns up nothing after a report of a vehicle being spotted in the water.

The Dover fire and police departments responded to a call placed to the 911 dispatch center just before 3:00am Monday.

Fire captain Brooks Ross says the call came from a driver who said she saw what looked like a vehicle in the Tuscarawas River.

Ross says no one from the department saw the truck but did see tire tracks in the snow near the river which led them to believe a vehicle may have gone in the water.

Ross says since the tire tracks were fresh, the department decided to call for the SONAR equipment.

Since the SONAR hasn’t shown there’s a vehicle in the river, Ross says he’s confident there’s no vehicle in there.

Ross says he’s grateful that no one had to go into the water for this search.

In addition to the Dover police department and Akron fire department, Dover fire was assisted on the scene by the Bolivar fire department, who provided a light tower and an extra boat.
