Uhrichsville council remains divided on what measure to put before voters on May 7th.
Council met during a special meeting Monday night to discuss two options that would help generate money for the cash-strapped city, including a 7.4 mill operating levy and a newly proposed one-quarter percent (¼%) income tax increase. With six of the seven members present at the meeting, council still failed to secure enough votes to both suspend the rules and pass either measure.
Finance Committee Chair Rob Stewart says his committee recommended the 7.4 mill levy, which would generate 400-thousand dollars annually for the city's general fund. If approved, increasing the income tax would only generate approximately 194-thousand dollars annually.
Stewart says he favors the levy over the income tax increase.

Councilman Joel Peterson says he has concerns regarding what the voters will actually support.
Regardless of which option is placed before voters in May, Mayor Terry Culbertson says council must present a united front and show its support.
In order to meet the 4pm filing deadline for this Wednesday, February 6th, with the Tuscarawas County Board of Elections, council will host another special meeting this evening, Tuesday, February 5th, at 5:00pm in council chambers.
