He was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church in Waynesburg, OH. John was an active member of the Eagles 141, the Polish Club, and The Club.
In addition to his parents Mackie and Maude (McKinney) McCoury, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bettie of 52 years; brothers, Zellian, Lonnie, Frank, Carson and sisters, baby Gertrude and Bernice, as well as daughter, Sherry Sonley.
John was survived by his sister, Winnie Jones and brother, Grady (Pearl) McCoury; children, Nadine (Bob) Hein of Florida, John McCoury Jr., Darline (Eugene Kopp) Sterling, Gary (Mike Lofland, Lisa Sulzbach) McCoury, Gail (Damon) Habrun, and Becky (Larry) Notz, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and a special friend Jackie Szakacs.
John retired from the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18 AFL-CIO and was an honored member for fifty-five years. John was an employee of Beaver Excavating Company until 1985.
Calling hours will be held in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 4 to 8pm. Funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Canton Hospice or the Free Will Baptist Church in Waynesburg.
