Lura M. Brown

Lura M. Brown, 88, of Massillon, entered into the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, February 22, 2013. Born November 30, 1924, in Vaughn, WV, a daughter to the late Allen and Icy Childers, Lura walked with the Lord from an early age and received a nurturing spirit, a gentle soul and a loving heart. She came from a large family and in turn, together with her late husband, Raymond E. Brown, created a loving home for 12 children of their own as well as actively raising two grandchildren. Lura had always kept close ties with her church community and held a fondness for Gospel music.

Preceded in death by her parents and her husband; a daughter, Phyllis McHenry; sons, Ronald and Larry Brown; sisters, Erma Bowles, Frances Pitsenbarger, Ollie Wycle and Gray Crookshanks, and a brother, Allen “Junior” Childers, Lura is survived by her daughters, Jewel (Richard) Schwab of Arizona, Carol (Brent) McFarland of North Canton, Connie (Dennis) Gainey of Massillon and Cheryl (Kenny) Riese of Brewster; her sons, Allen R. (Laura) Brown of Heath, OH, Elzie E. (Barbara) Brown of Navarre, Terry and David Brown, both of Massillon and Jimmy (Karen) Brown of Albuquerque, NM; her grandchildren, Stephanie Hazzard and Melissa Felton who together had provided care to their grandma for the past several years, Jennifer Goodson, Bob Gentile, Kim Millard, Michelle Gainey, Alycia Riese, David Brown, Jr., Lura Brown, Linda Pickins, Alex Brown, Benjamin Brown, Rick McHenry, Brenda Ledford and Sandy Hall; there are many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; as well as her sisters, Wanda (Carl) Steele of Massillon, Sharron (Burton) Bowles of Milan, OH, Lulabelle (Ronald) Harper of Massillon; and brothers, Franklin Childers of Indiana, and Delmas (Jeanie) Childers of Brewster.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon. Sister Wanda Payne of Full Gospel Community Church will officiate. Burial will follow in East Union Lawn Cemetery in Navarre. Calling hours will be Tuesday evening, February 26, 2013, from 6 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made in care of the funeral home.
