Helen had worked as a cook at Miller Ave. School and was retired from the US Post Office having worked at Dover, the former Shanesville Post Office and then retiring from the Sugarcreek Post Office. She was a member of the Shanesville Lutheran Church, the Home Weiss American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Hospice, NARFE, Order of the Eastern Star at Coshocton and the Sugarcreek Tree Committee. She enjoyed knitting, working in her many flower gardens and serving her community.
She was married to Ralph C. Hershberger (former Mayor of Sugarcreek from 1987-1995) who preceded her on September 22, 2000. She is survived by her children Tom (Kathy) Hershberger of New Philadelphia, Ollie Hershberger of Sugarcreek, and Ina (Pete) Secret of Clarksburg, W. Virginia, grandchildren Frankie Secret, Natalie (Brad) Riggs and Andrea (Jared) Brunk and great grandchildren Jaxson Riggs and Noah, Lincoln, and Carson Brunk.
In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by 4 brothers Andy, Mike, Frank and Johnny and 5 sisters Kay, Anne, Mary, Sue and Julia.
Services will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Shanesville Lutheran Church with Rev. Ellen Mills officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call on Tues 4-7 PM at Smith-Varns Funeral Home at Sugarcreek.
