Genevieve Elifritz Caldwell Shuman



Genevieve Elifritz Caldwell Shuman, of Sherrodsville, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Saturday evening, February 22, 2013, at the age of 84, at the home of her daughter Wendy, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born March 5, 1928 in Massillon, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late Ted and Mildred Ashworth Elifritz.

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn Harry Caldwell, who died November 11, 1991, her daughter

Mildred Paul who died August 31, 2009, her grandson Eric Zeigler who died April 3, 1995, two brothers Donald and Bill Elifritz, and a step-daughter Arla Cycles.

She was the Valedictorian of the former Sherrodsville High School Class of 1946. She also earned an Associate's Degree from Kent State University. She was employed by the former First National Bank at Sherrodsville where she worked as a custodian for more than 25 years. Genevieve was well-known locally for her beautiful singing talents, which she shared for many years at church and community functions, weddings, and funerals. She was a charter member of the Sherrodsville Wesleyan Church, where she served her Lord as an active and faithful member for most of her life. She served as a song leader, taught Sunday School, was president of the Wesleyan Missionary Society, and served in many other capacities for her church for many years. In addition to her church activities, she was revered by her family as a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Seaward Amos Shuman, four children Dewaine (Sandy) Caldwell of Union, Kentucky, Chuck (Patsy) Caldwell of Sherrodsville, Mrs. Floyd (Debby) Zeigler of Roswell, O., Mrs. Dan (Wendy) Parson of Bowerston, a son-in-law, Rev. David Paul of Vancleve, Kentucky, her ten grandchildren Jonathan (Amy) Paul, Jason (Grace) Paul, Tommy Carnes, Ryan (Danielle) Caldwell, Darby (Tori) Caldwell, Christy (Steve) Watt, Shanna (Phil) Burky, Joshua (Katelyn) Parson, Derek (Aubree) Parson. and Tara Parson, 22 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, her eight brothers and sisters John Elifritz of New Philadelphia, O., Raymond (Dolly) Elifritz of Columbus, Indiana, Jim (Norma) Elifritz of Leavittsville, O., Bob Elifritz of Magnolia, O., Dale Elifritz of Canton, O., Colleen Blymiller of Leavittsville, Cynthia Strawder of Carrollton, O., and Loretta (Ronnie) Hupp of Crossville, Tennessee; her step-children Jim (Patsy) Shuman, Jessie (John) Kooi, Grace Brown, Lois Lawter, Steve Shuman, and Becky (Gary) Walton, and numerous step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 27, 2013 in the Sherrodsville Wesleyan Church with Pastor Ean Green officiating.  Interment will follow in the Sherrodsville Memorial Gardens. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville. A luncheon will be provided at the church following services.
