Glen W. "Dink" Moreland, Jr., age 58, of 222 Penn Avenue, Bowerston, Ohio, died Tuesday night, February 26, 2013 in the Louis Stokes Medical Center, Wade Park Campus following a long battle with cancer.
He was born October 30, 1954 in Canton, Ohio and was the son of the late Glen William, Sr. and Mabel Earlene Gartrell Moreland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Naaman Glen Douglas Tantarelli.
He had worked as a diesel mechanic for the former Boniway Leasing at Midvale. He was a graduate of Carrollton High School and a Viet Nam era veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Dink was the founder of the 300 Club, a weight-lifting club that recognized those capable of bench-pressing more than 300 pounds. He personally held the Club record with a press of 425 pounds. Dink was an accomplished guitarist, having played since he was 16, and played lead guitar for the band "Branded" for more than seven years. He also trained and taught many individuals the skills and art of playing the guitar. He was a vocal member of the N.R.A. At home, Dink delighted in showing off his cooking skills, and enjoyed spending time in his woodworking shop following the onset of his illness when he could no longer work or play guitar.
He is survived by his wife Shawn Marie Freeman Moreland, whom he married April 25, 1981, four children Wayne Freeman and his girlfriend Lynn Salinas of Uhrichsville, O., Jason (Audrey) Freeman of Dover, O., Desiree Moreland and her boyfriend Todd Tantarelli of New Philadelphia, O., and Jessica Moreland of Bowerston and her boyfriend Sam Minton of New Philadelphia, eight grandchildren Aldan, Sam, Max, Ajay, Jaelee, Riley, Aidan, and Noah, and his four brothers, Clyde W. "Skip" Dever III of Seattle, Washington, Dennis G. "Bud" Dever of Tallmadge, O., John E. Moreland of Dellroy, O., and Craig A. Moreland of Canton, and large host of good friends.
Although no formal funeral services will be observed, a Memorial Gathering in Dink's honor will be held from 1:00 until 4:00 P.M., Saturday, March 16, 2013 at The Tailored Affair, 9581 State Route #39 N.E., Sherrodsville, Ohio. The Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville has been entrusted with arrangements.
