Red Cross to Help Area Residents "Save the Day"

The Muskingum Lakes Chapter of the American Red Cross will take time this weekend to educate the public on fire prevention and how to save lives.

Chapter Director Chad Conrad says the Red Cross has partnered with McDonalds’ Restaurants and WTUZ Radio to host a “Save the Day” event on Saturday, March 9th from 10am until noon.

During that time, Red Cross personnel will be on hand at the Uhrichsville, New Philadelphia-Boulevard, Cadiz, and Carrollton McDonalds’ Restaurants to distribute free smoke alarms to area families.

Conrad says the event has become an annual tradition.

On average, Conrad says disasters, including home fires, cause three families per month to lose everything they own. Therefore, he says the day will be geared towards both education and preventative maintenance.

In addition to March being Red Cross Month, Saturday’s event coincides with the start of daylight saving time, which Conrad believes helps to serve as a reminder to make sure your smoke detectors are in proper working order.

As part of the “Save the Day” event, be sure to join WTUZ Saturday from 10am to noon as we broadcast live from the McDonalds’ Restaurant in Uhrichsville, located at 101 McCauley Drive.
