She grew up in several locations in northeastern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania and graduated from Sherrodsville High School in 1937. She married her lifelong partner George Sell on August 13, 1938. George and Betty first lived in Leavittsville, Ohio but moved to East Sparta, Ohio in 1940. In 1952 the couple returned to Carroll County (Leesville) where they resided until shortly after retiring. In 1986 they moved to Dover where they spent their final years together. For the past eight and one half years she has lived at the Country Club Retirement Center where she “got three good meals every day and didn't have to do the dishes!”
Betty and George had two sons, William (Althea) of Saint Paul, Minnesota and James of Alexandria, VA. Betty worked for many years as a clerk in retail stores; first at LaFountains in New Philadelphia; and later at Masters Market in Bowerston. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting, gardening, baking (especially pies), traveling and playing many games, especially cards (euchre, pinochle and 500) and dominoes. She was a member of Winfield United Methodist Church.
Betty's husband George preceded her in death on December 19, 1995. She was one of 16 children and 11 of those siblings, and Betty’s step-mother Miriam Yost Miskimen also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her two sons, one sister Margaret of Yardley, Pennsylvania, three brothers, Paul of Cantonment, Florida, John of Cadotte, Wisconsin, and Hugh of New Philadelphia, Ohio, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
