A life resident of Canton, he was preceded in death by his mother Janett F. (Sinclair) Bowen, sister Betty Jane Oliver and brother Lawrence Robert Cunningham.
John was a Marine Corp veteran. He retired from the Canton City Police Department as a Lieutenant after 30 years of service, followed by 17 years at Stark State College providing security. He was a member of the F.O.P. McKinley Lodge #2.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Joyce (Demchak) Oliver, son and daughter-in-law John E. III and Jennifer Oliver of Canton, grandchildren Brianna Oliver and John E Oliver IV, brother and sister-in-law Warren and Vi Cunningham of Minerva, niece Karen Pinion of Canton and many other special family and friends.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 5 to 6:30 pm at the Rossi Funeral Home. F.O.P. Services will be held at 4:45 pm Wednesday. Memorial services will follow at 6:30 pm, Denny and Marge Hazen officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in John's name may be made to the Widow's and Orphan's Fund for the F.O.P. McKinley Lodge #2, 1411 Cherry Ave. NE, Canton, OH 44714 or the Hazen Ministries, 5716 Louisville St. NE, Louisville, OH 44641.
