Governor Announces Possible Solution to State Budget Deficit

Ohio legislatures continue to struggle to find a solution to Ohio’s 3.2 billion dollar budget deficit.

Governor Ted Strickland addressed interested persons Thursday, in the cabinet room at the statehouse in Columbus, about his plan to permit the Ohio Lottery Commission to install video lottery terminals or VLTs, at Ohio’s racetracks.

Strickland says the work on Ohio’s budget has been very promising but the issue of putting VLTs at Ohio’s horse racetracks remains the controversial issue.

Strickland Comments:

Strickland also says VLT implementation is not possible without the legislatures’ authority.

Strickland Comments:

The Governor says he will not offer an alternative budget and adds, if the Ohio Senate wants the state to continue to operate, Senators will find a way to manage Strickland’s current budget proposal.

The Ohio House has passed two seven-day interim budgets to give lawmakers more time to deal with Governor Strickland’s gambling proposal.
