Holiday Weekend Travel

Triple-A is forecasting a decrease in travel this 4th of July weekend.

Triple-A Spokeswoman Bevi Powell says Officials are predicting that the projected number of Americans traveling on vacation this Fourth of July holiday weekend will decrease 1.9 percent from 2008.

Powell Comments:

Powell says last year 37.8 million Americans traveled during the same period, a 10.5 percent decline from the 42.3 million travelers who vacationed back in 2007.

Powell says however, that for those planning on traveling this weekend, gas prices seem to have fallen a few pennies this week.

Powell Comments:

On a similar note, Powell says that many people choosing to travel by air are finding lower airfares this year.

Powell Comments:

Powell says trips by other modes of travel including air and auto combinations, rail, buses and watercraft, will be the dominant means of travel used by an estimated 2.5 million Americans or 7 percent of all travelers.
