House Fire Interrupts Big Game

Fairfield Township volunteer firefighters expected the Indianapolis Colts to win the Superbowl.

Fairfield volunteer assistant chief Kevin Boyd says firefighters were called 3 minutes into the 3rd quarter of the Superbowl Sunday night to a house fire on Brown Hill Road.

Boyd says Homeowners Tom and Linda Vosick were without power Sunday and decided to build a fire in the chimney to keep warm, when Tom noticed heavy smoke coming from the chimney side of the house and instructed his wife to call 9-1-1.

Fairfield firefighters, along with Sherrodsville and Mineral City, attempted to control the fire by ventilating the roof and the side of the home.

Boyd says minimal damage occurred to the interior of the home, while the exterior wall and parts of the roof will need replaced and says a dollar estimate was not placed on the damage.

Boyd says the home remains livable and a design restoration team arrived to seal up the home until more permanent repairs can be made.

Boyd says no one was injured, but says firefighters remained at scene until near midnight to make sure the blaze had been snuffed out.

Surprisingly, when firefighters arrived at home early Monday morning, they learned the Colts had been upset by the New Orleans Saints.
