The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank kicked-off the Harvest for Hunger campaign, Wednesday.
Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank CEO Dan Flowers says the campaign, which is one of the largest food and fund drives in the country, commences every March and depends on community support.
Flowers Comments:
Foodbank officials hope to raise 700-thousand dollars in 2010, up from 625-thousand dollars in 2009, and Flowers says the goal symbolizes the direct response of need from the community.
Flowers Comments:
Earlier this month, the research study, Hunger in America 2010, reported that the foodbank feeds more than 40-thousand different people every week.
Flowers encourages community support, and says contributing to the campaign is as easy as buying groceries.
Flowers says one hundred percent of all Harvest for Hunger donations are used to provide food at no cost to local food pantries, which includes areas throughout Tuscarawas County.
Flowers Comments:
Food distributed from the Newcomerstown Food Pantry and the Greater Dover-New Philadelphia Food Pantry comes directly from the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.
So, once again, Flowers hopes the community will help the foodbank raise 700-thousand dollars in March, and says the more support we have the more good we can do.
