Farm Bureau Discusses National Debt in DC

Working to balance a national budget has distressed some of Washington’s Congressional leaders.

WTUZ’s Beth Wagner has more from Washington:

Senator George Voinovich, along with numerous other House Representatives, spoke to Farm Bureau members Tuesday, regarding the biggest concerns facing the agricultural industry and the nation.

Voinovich focused on the national debt, which rose to 10.52 trillion dollars in 2009, which is a 95 percent increase since 1999, and would cost over 30-thousand dollars for every American alive.

Voinovich Comments:

Voinovich also joined other party members by voting against the Lieberman-Boxer Climate Bill, which Voinovich says would have made natural gas, electricity and gasoline costs sky-rocket, a decision he firmly stands by today.

Voinovich Comments:

District 7 Representative Steve Austria says with spending programs such as President Barak Obama’s Stimulus Bill, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Cap and Trade and National Healthcare, Congress is creating an unstable future for America’s children.

Austria Comments:

Other Representatives John Boehner, Jim Jordan, and Pat Tiberi, which personally met with Farm Bureau members lobbying in Washington DC, all echoed the concerns of their colleagues.

All agreed that America needs to live within her means and stop relying on credit.
