Tuscarawas and Surrounding Counties Placed Under Flood Watch

Spring temperatures have arrived, but melting snow could cause flooding in the area.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for portions of Carroll, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison, Muskingum, Noble and Tuscarawas Counties from 7 o'clock Thursday evening until Sunday evening.

As the snow melts, rivers and streams are expected to reach maximum capacity, and periods of rain through Sunday will contribute to a high volume of water.

In New Philadelphia, the Ohio Department of Transportation has closed State Route 258 between Stillwater and West Chester due to that high water.

The roadway will open when the water recedes, but meteorologists are forecasting rain, so officials say it may remain closed for several days.

Other areas which could be affected by flooding include Belmont, Columbiana, Jefferson and Monroe Counties.
