Mary Alice Reporting –

The last summer holiday is this weekend and law enforcement are reminding drivers to pay attention on roadways.

September 2nd is Labor Day and many will have an extended weekend making travels plans and crowded roads a high possibility.

Ohio State Highway Patrol New Philadelphia Post Lt. Mark Glennon emphasizes the needed for motorist to stop driving distracted.

“Put the phones down. Put anything down that’s going to distract you. Make sure that you’re paying attention to the roadway. Also, our Move Over Campaign. If you do see an emergency vehicle on the side of the road, move over and slow down.”

He also advises to watch out for motorcycles.

Additionally, if individuals are to drink, Glennon says to designate a sober driver.

“If you’re going to consume any alcohol that’s going to impair you’re driving, please plan ahead, designated a driver, or don’t drink at all.”

More troopers will be out for the busy weekend to enforce rules of the road and ensure everyone has a safe holiday.
