Police Encourage Citizens to Help Keep Communities Safe

Michaela Madison Reporting
(Monday, November 13th) New Philadelphia, Ohio – A local police department is stressing the importance of a strong partnership between the police and the public.

New Philadelphia Police Chief Michael Goodwin explained that citizens are always encouraged to report suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.

“We may see some vehicles that are in a driveway or show up in front of a house, but we may not necessarily know whether that is normal activity,” explained Chief Goodwin. “That’s where we rely on the citizens of the Dover, New Philadelphia and of course anywhere in the county, if they see something that is suspicious to them, please give us a call.”

Chief Goodwin explained residents should never feel as though they are tattling or bothering law enforcement when they reach out.

“We are here 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We always answer calls,” said Chief Goodwin. “If these phone calls come into us we will certainly go out and check into them.”

Chief Goodwin added that the patrolling officers can’t be everywhere all the time, but notes with the help of residents in the community everyone is safer.
