Ray A. Vesco, 64, of Uhrichsville, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, October 17, 2021. Born July 25, 1957 in Dennison, he was a son of Peggy Lou (Thompson) Vesco of Tuscarawas and the late Raymond Stephen Vesco.

Ray was a lifelong area resident, a 1976 graduate of Indian Valley North High School, and a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Stillwater. After 18 years in surface mining with Costain Coal, he spent 26 years working for Novelis of Newport (formerly Aleris and IMCO). Throughout his career, he was a union leader, having been elected to four terms (12 years) as Union President for Local #4994. He faithfully served his union brothers on the Compact Committee for 26 years, as Chairman of the Grievance Committee for 21 years, and as a member of the Negotiating Committee for 15 years. He will be remembered for his giving nature and willingness to go above and beyond for anyone who needed help.

On October 20, 2001, he married Cathy A. (Veley) Vesco with whom he was looking forward to celebrating 20 years of loving marriage this week. His surviving children and grandchildren are Rachel (Jason) Peterson and their children, Sienna, Alden, and Luke; Laura (Mark) Hubert and their son, Kade; Jordan Vesco; Jordan (Ashley) Vosick and their children, Brantly and Emmalynn; Molly (Shane) Stine and their children, Lexi, Easton, and Ensley; and Megan (Kevin) O’Dell and their children, Ella and Emery. Ray is also survived by his sister, Cindy (Jim) Sutton-Schaub; parents-in-law, William and Peggy Veley of Stillwater; sisters-in-law, Cindy (companion, Dan) Householder and Crystal (companion, Scott) Edwards; his lifelong friend, Mike “Hank” Moreland; and his canine buddies, Yonder and Roxy.

Ray lived life to the fullest and was a man of many interests and even more talents. He loved gardening, especially growing garlic and hot peppers, and will be remembered for his wonderful home-canned treats, homemade pasta and meatballs, and delicious wine which he loved to share with his family and friends. In younger years, he was a dedicated weightlifter who could deadlift 500 lbs., earning him local awards. He loved being outdoors and spent many happy hours chopping wood, hunting, and fishing. Most of all, Ray treasured the time that he spent with his family. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he loved taking them to church with him.

Pastors Kory Rowland and Dave Koch will officiate his funeral service on Thursday, October 21, at 6:00 p.m. in the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison.
