Road Conditions the Cause of a One-Vehicle Crash

Mary Alice Reporting:

(Friday, January 12th) New Philadelphia, Ohio – Speed combined with icy road conditions is the cause of a single-vehicle accident.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Christopher Demuth explains the vehicle was traveling northbound on Crooked Run Road Wednesday morning.

“Approaching Sugarcreek Road and that grade there was a little bit icy and it slid off the right side of the road, overturned into a ditch, and struck an embankment and culvert.”

He notes the speed limit is 55mph; however, while the driver was not going above the posted limit, speed is still a cause due to the unsafe road conditions. Demuth comments if the woman would have driven at a slower speed the crash may not have occurred.

The woman was initially taken to Aultman Hospital but as of Thursday morning was transported to Cleveland Metro Hospital.

Demuth encourages all motorists to drive safe this weekend since we are expected to get rain Friday that will turn into snow by Friday evening and into Saturday.
