Robert D. Yost – December 19, 2017

Robert D. Yost 73 of Bolivar died Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the Community Hospice House in New Philadelphia following a 4 month battle with pancreatic cancer.  He was born April 19, 1944 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Rev. A.C. and Ruth (Lauer) Yost.

His father was Minister at the Ragersville United Church of Christ for 26 years and Bob spent his childhood growing up in Ragersville and Sugarcreek. He was a 1962 graduate of Garaway High School and graduated in 1968 from Kent State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. He worked as a Deputy Sherriff for the Tuscarawas County Sherriff’s Office before entering the US Army Criminal Investigation Division in Korea during the Vietnam War. He then spent his career as a Criminal Investigator for the US Postal Service in NY City for 28 years, where he was known as “Mad Dog”. 

Bob was a member of the local area VFW, board member of the Ragersville Historical Society, active with the Ragersville United Church of Christ and enjoyed nature, fishing, hunting and his motorcycles. 

He is survived by his daughter Monica Yost (Jason) Kiss of Cleveland, grandson Dillon Kiss, his brother Carl (Mary Ida) Yost of Michigan, longtime significant other Jannett Fink, lifelong friends Raymond and Sharon Hisrich of Ragersville and loyal poodle companions Leandra and Lucy. 

Services will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 11 AM at the Ragersville United Church of Christ with Rev. A. Bruce Haltom officiating.  Burial will be in the Union Hill Cemetery in Sugarcreek where Military Honors will be conducted by the Legion.  Friends may call on Friday, December 22, 2017 from 4-8 PM at Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
