Ruth I. Young – April 9, 2018

“Together Again”

Ruth I. Young of Ragersville entered the gates of heaven peacefully in her sleep on April 9, 2018 at the age of 90. Ruth was born July 4, 1927 to the late Simon and Alma (Kaser) Krieger.

Ruth attended Baltic High School where she met and later married her high school sweetheart John Young on August 10, 1946. They celebrated 71 years of marriage before he died on October 26, 2017. Together they purchased and started farming John’s grandfather’s farm.  There she helped milk dairy cows until the herd was sold in 2000.

Ruth was a member of the Ragersville Zion United Church of Christ where for many years she served on the banquet committee, was church organist for many years, was deeply involved with the Woman’s Guild and was a member of the Ragersville Historical Society. She, along with John, were life long members of the Ohio and National Holstein Association where she proudly worked and supported District III and the Ohio Holstein Women’s projects. In 2006 she was the recipient of Ohio Holstein Women of the Year. Ruth was quite proud of her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments in the show ring on the county, district, state and national levels.  To show her pride in their accomplishments, Ruth hand stitched quilts with the ribbons her children and grandchildren won at county, state and national shows.  The largest consisting of over 200 ribbons.

Ruth will be sadly missed by her children Jim (Sandra) Young and Sharon (Raymond) Hisrich; four grandchildren James Douglas (Jill) Young, Tripp Hisrich, and John (Mandy) Hisrich all of the Ragersville area and Brittany Young of Charleston, West Virginia; four great grandchildren Holly Young, Olivia Young, JD Young and Hoyt Hisrich; brother Earl Krieger of Indiana and sister-in-law Margene (Pete) Hicks of Sugarcreek.  In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son Dale Edward Young, grandson Jaime Lee Young, brother Paul Krieger, sisters Grace Kaser and Miriam Casey, infant sister Eve Krieger, sister-in-law Gladys Stotzer and brother-in-law Raymond Young.

A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Ragersville Zion United Church of Christ with Pastor Bruce Haltom officiating.  Burial will follow in Union Hill Cemetery in Sugarcreek, with a reception to follow at the Church.  All are welcome to attend.  Friends may call on Thursday from 4-8 PM at the Ragersville Zion United Church of Christ and on Friday from 10-11 AM prior to Services at the Church.
