(Wednesday, December 5th) Tuscarawas County, Ohio – A local law enforcement officer received an outstanding peace officer award.

Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell was selected by the Ohio Prosecuting Attorney’s Association as the Officer of the Year.

County Prosecutor Ryan Styer nominated Campbell based upon his work throughout his 25 years working at the sheriff’s office and his involvement from a 2016 Mineral City abduction case.

“Well deserved for all the outstanding work that he has done in our community as a detective, and a sheriff, and particularly, the case that I highlighted involving the Mineral City Warrior [and] Orvis’s quick instincts and good all-around police work.”

Sheriff Campbell expressed his gratitude and how honored he is to have been nominated and chosen for the recognition.

“I haven’t received a lot of awards in my career, but I will tell you, this type of award it does feel the best because when you’re judged by your peers that know and understand the job, the laws, and the restrictions. When they gave me the award, it addressed my general knowledge of the job and that made me feel really good.”

The OPAA awards were presented at an annual banquet last week in Columbus.
