(Thursday, December 13, 2018) Tuscarawas County, Ohio – It was announced last week that Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell was named the 2018 Peace Officer of the year by the Ohio Prosecuting Attorney’s Association.
Wednesday, Senator Jay Hottinger honored Sheriff Campbell in Columbus with a resolution on the floor of the Senate during a session.
“We have 88 Sheriffs and to be recognized as the top cop and the best peace officer in the state, that’s just a tremendous honor, and we love to recognize outstanding accomplishments. It’s such a special day to be able to say thank you and a job well done and that we’re very proud of him.”
Hottinger said Sheriff Campbell displays great leadership and commitment to the people of Tuscarawas County and has dedicated his life to public service and keeping our communities safe.
County Prosecutor Ryan Styer nominated Campbell based upon his work throughout his 25 years working at the sheriff’s office and his involvement from a 2016 Mineral City abduction case.
Sheriff Campbell was nominated by County Prosecutor Ryan Styer because of his extensive work over the past 25 years, serving as a deputy, detective and chief deputy and because of his significant role in the 2016 abduction case in Mineral City. Campbell was elected in 2016.
