Michaela Madison Reporting

(Tuesday, December 5th) Wayne County, Ohio – The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is issuing an alert in hopes of locating a man wanted for several weeks.

Sheriff’s Captain Doug Hunter took to Facebook Tuesday morning following an incident where a man reportedly shot at several law enforcement officers, striking multiple cruisers.

“Around 1:30 a.m. [Tuesday] morning Wooster Police were attempting to stop a vehicle believed to be containing a man by the name of James ‘Bubba’ Schmidt,” explained Hunter. “[This] led into a pursuit which went from the area of Wooster into the Orrville area.”

Captain Hunter explained Schmidt ran his car off the road and then engaged the officers with additional gunfire, striking several cruisers.

“The man then fled on foot and broke into a home and stole the keys to a vehicle and then went to the garage, which was an unattached building, and essentially drove the vehicle completely through the garage,” added Hunter.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Wayne County Sheriff’ Office.
