Sock Collection Begins to Help the Homeless

<p>Mary Alice Reporting:

(November 13th) Tuscarawas County, Ohio – A local initiative to provide new socks to the homeless is underway for the month of November in Tuscarawas and Stark counties.

Sock Drop Founder Brenda Gee says the intuitive began a year ago after she met and became friends with Elizabeth at the Friends of the Homeless Shelter.

“Just watching her go through this process of having had become homeless and regaining her life back, and listening to her stories about things like ill-fitting shoes and socks, and keeping her feet dry through the winter months this past year touches my heart.”

Elizabeth explains she was homeless for several months due to circumstantial reasons and says being homeless can happen to anyone for different reasons.

“You wake up and your feet are cold, and you appreciate what a pair of socks can do for you. It can make or break your day literally because your feet are getting wet, you’re usually walking all day, and you’re wearing the same socks at night.”

The sock drop is asking for new men’s, women’s, and children’s socks of all types and sizes.

Local drop off locations are McInturf Realty, WJER, and the Ezekiel project. Sites in Canton are Mission BBQ and Sears at Belden Village.
