Mary Alice Reporting:

(Friday, January 19th) New Philadelphia, Ohio – Class is back in session for West Elementary School students after an evacuation for a fire in a school owned motorhome.

New Philadelphia Fire Chief Jim Parrish says they responded Friday morning after an automatic fire alarm triggered and found a small fire in a motor home outside the school building, used for reading and speech therapy.

“Fire was quickly extinguished. There was never any danger to the children. They evacuated to the opposite end of the building, and just can’t say enough about how well the entire staff worked together, took care of the situation, and ensured the safety of the children.”

No one was inside the motorhome or injured, and Parrish says the cause is accidental/undetermined and is likely electrical.

Students were back in class before fire crews left and they were on scene for about 45 minutes.
