(September 8th) New Philadelphia, Ohio – The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office is set to receive more than $80,000 from the state of Ohio to continue efforts against the local opiate epidemic.

Senator Jay Hottinger explained that the $3 million in grants were distributed by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office to law enforcement agencies across Ohio.

“They’re able to work in a collaborative or a more comprehensive manner with drug addiction services and children’s services agencies and health agencies.”

The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office was the only law enforcement agency in the county to receive funds, but officials note the money will be used in collaboration with other agencies.

Senator Hottinger added that the overall goal is to urge those on the law enforcement side of the issue to work closely with those working to provide treatment.
