Trapped Mosquitoes Positive for W. Nile Virus

<p>Mary Alice Reporting:

(August, 7th) New Philadelphia, Ohio – The New Philadelphia Health Department responds to mosquitos testing positive for the W. Nile virus.

Environmental Health Director Lee Finley explains the department conducted trapping through the city and in the area of Goshen Township. He says the positive mosquitos were trapped on Tech Drive NE, which is near the Tuscarawas County Dog Warden.

Finley stresses that no individuals are known to have contracted the virus in Tuscarawas County.

“That’s one reason that we started trapping was so that we could find these positive pools earlier so that we can start treating these areas before we ever get to the point of anybody contracting the disease. So, it’s actually a good thing that we found this earlier in the year.”

The New Philadelphia Health Department will be spraying Tuesday and possibly into Wednesday within in a one mile radius in the area of Tech Drive beginning at dusk.
