Mary Alice Reporting:

(Tuesday, December 11th) A November incident prompted an investigation that resulted in a 21-year-old to face two charges.

The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office was notified on November 21st after a two-year-old was taken to Union Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Detective Adam Fisher explains that the report was issued around 9:10am.

“In regards to a two-year-old that had arrived at the emergency room for treatment and he presented with numerous bruises and injuries. There was some abrasions, one burn, and there was a mixture of old and new injuries.”

Hospital staff noted that the injuries were inconsistent with the Midvale mother’s story regarding that the wounds happened due to a short distance fall.

After weeks of investigating by the Sheriff’s Office and Job and Family Services, the mother’s boyfriend, Joseph Sanders, of Uhrichsville, was arrested without incident.

“Our investigation revealed that Sanders was alone with the child for a significant amount of time on November 21st. Joseph did have connections or conversations with the child’s mother and she was ultimately the individual who transported the child to the hospital.”

Charges against him are two counts of endangering children and felonious assault.

Fisher adds that after, undergoing surgery at Akron Children’s Hospital, the child is expected to make a full recovery.
