The final process for getting the new 911 system operating is unfolding for the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office.
County Commissioners approved a lease agreement on Monday for a tower located in the county’s northwest corner.
Sheriff’s Office Fiscal and HR Administrator Jim Torch says that all of the lease agreements needed updated in order to make the radio transition.
“We’re joining the MARCS radio system. The states system and this is their requirements. It’s all new equipment on the tours and [in the buildings].”
He adds that new generators will also be installed at the towers to ensure operation efficiency in the event of a power outage.
Voters approved a 0.5% countywide sales tax that goes through September 30, 2020 to pay for the upgraded 911 system that will provide enhanced communications for law enforcement.
