Michele Spring Reporting:
(Wednesday, July 11, 2018) New Philadelphia, Ohio – The New Philadelphia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1445 is looking for business or resident donations for an upcoming veteran’s honor trip.
The VFW is hoping to send fifty or more veterans to Washington D.C. for an overnight stay to visit war monuments they may have never seen before.
Commander Steve Chenevey said they’ll visit monuments honoring World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam Veterans.
“We’d like to really get some of the old veterans who have never been over there. You’ve heard of the “Honor Flight”, this is like an “Honor Bus”.”
Chenevey says they will also be attending Arlington National Cemetery to see the Changing of the Guard.
The VFW will hold a boxed pulled pork dinner, auction, and bake sale to help raise money for the veteran’s bus trip.
“For $10 a ticket. And at the same time, we’re doing a school supply drive. We did this last year, so half of this money from this benefit on the 4th of August will be for school supplies for the teachers and the other half would be for the veteran’s Washington D.C. trip.”
The cost per veteran is $235. The hope is to defray that price as much as possible.
Those interested in donating should contact the VFW at (330)364-9973 or mail in your donation to 441 Park Ave New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
